TRACK LIMIT PENALTY ROBS RAW DRIVER OF SR1 VICTORY

RAW Motorsports driver Nick Zapolski was robbed of a victory in the Radical SR1 Cup at Oulton Park, after a five seconds track limits penalty dropped him to second.

After the morning qualifying session Zapolski was sixth quickest and team mate Gavin McAlpine 13th, but both had times disallowed for exceeding track limits

Race 1:

In the first race Zapolski slotted into fifth place on the opening lap, but was consistently losing time to the lead quartet.

But on the fifth lap he had brought the gap to fourth placed Ross Elliott down to only 0.7 secs, before both moved up after Dean Warriner had an excursion.

Elliott responded however and the flag the gap was back up to four seconds, with Zapolski having to settle for fourth, before a penalty for being out of place at the start dropped him to sixth.

McAlpine struggled for pace throughout the race, but made it to the flag in 14th.

Race 2:

For race two Zapolski was fourth on the grid, but had a scorching opening lap. He was second into Old Hall and as his charge continued he led through Island to give him a 0.790 secs over early leader Will Hunt.

He briefly started to consolidate the place before Hunt made inroads again. But after James Pinkerton had split the duo a lap from home, Zapolski took the flag first on the road and 1.674 secs clear of new man second man Pinkerton.

Both Zapolski and Hunt were given further track limit penalties however. The five seconds added to Zapolski’s race time then relegated him to a disappointing second place, behind Pinkerton.

McAlpine matched his race one result with 14th, having been unable to progress through the order on this occasion.

The next round of the Championship is at Brands Hatch on October 10th.
